On the 6th September 2025, exactly 50 years from its inception, Wealden Talking News celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
The occasion was marked by an Afternoon Tea party at Etchingham Village Hall, attended by over 90 volunteers , listeners, supporters and sponsors, with Deputy Lieutenant Amanda Hamblin, representing the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex. Two guide dogs, Pearlie and Rosie completed the guest list and all enjoyed the most scrumptious tea, donated and prepared by volunteers under the leadership of Heather Halit.
As a memoir of the day, we have created some recorded highlights beginning with a welcome from our chairman, Alan Cook. It moves on to a presentation of the history of the charity by Di Steele when one volunteer from each table carried each part of the WTN story forward. The recording ends with a moving speech by Amanda Hamblin DL having cut the Anniversary cake.
We thank Mike Hollis and Peter Lewis for creating this superb recording.
